2007 is shaping up as an important year for many automakers. GM and Ford have been been hit hard while Asian automakers are thriving. What’s in it for you? Read on and I’ll tell you what I know!

Suzuki SX-4, Chevrolet Suburban, Ford Sport Trac, Mazda CX-7, Hyundai Entourage, Kia Sedona, Nissan

Many model year 2007 vehicles have already hit new car showrooms starting with several new SUVs built by General Motors. The upcoming model year is shaping up as one likely to be filled with many changes as automakers reshape their line ups and prepare for the coming invasion of cheap imports from China. The choices for consumers have never been better and prices are actually lower for many models, therefore competition is good and you are the winner. Let’s take a look at five vehicles certain to grab much attention as they are released during this year.

Ford Explorer Sport Trac ?Based on the Explorer body, the Sport Trac has a wheelbase that is nearly 17 inches longer than the Explorer and a bed made out of composite material. With four doors and a truck bed, the SUV/pick up truck “hybrid?does double duty with plenty of style. Powered by a 4.0L V6, the 4.6L V8 found in the Expedition is also available. You can get the Sport Trac in either 2 of 4 wheel drive.

Mazda CX-7 ?Mazda jumps in to the crossover craze with its attractive looking CX-7. As a five door hatch/SUV “hybrid?the five passenger CX-7 will be powered by a turbo charged 2.3L I4 engine producing a remarkable 244 h.p. Available in front or all wheel drive, the CX-7 combines the athletic look of a sports car with the look of a curvy SUV. Ford and Lincoln will also get versions of the vehicle.

Suzuki SX-4 ?One of the lesser known Japanese brands, Suzuki is attempting to get a bigger piece of the pie by introducing new and revised versions of its models to the North American market. The SX-4, a compact crossover vehicle, is Suzuki’s latest attempt to reach their goals. Available as either a front wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle, the five door SX-4 is powered by a 2.0L I4 and is aimed squarely at Subaru lovers. It is the opinion of this writer that Suzuki must work on styling first before success can be expected; mostly everything the automaker produces is quite bland.

Chevrolet Suburban ?As part of the general’s overhaul of its midsize and large SUVS and trucks, the brawny Suburban debuts with many changes in place. All new sheet metal, displacement on demand engineering, and a remote power rear lift gate, are some of the chief changes with this big SUV. Naturally, in the face of $2 or $3 per gallon gasoline the Suburban presents a thirsty offering for owners. However, if it is a big SUV you need, then the all new Suburban may fill the bill for you.

Hyundai Entourage ?Sharing a platform with the Kia Sedona, the Entourage is Hyundai’s first minivan. Unlike the Sedona, only the long wheelbase version will be available. Powered by a 3.8L V6, the engine is mated to a five speed automatic transmission. An important feature with the Entourage is the third row seat which folds flat into the floor.

Yes, the 2007 model year is already here for some models. Prices are very competitive and the latest technology has been included with many vehicles. Shop and save today on a model that is certain to please you!

There are many of us who love the automobile and the freedom that goes along with it. However, nothing lasts forever and all car owners would benefit if they knew more about their vehicle. Large repair bills can be reduced with some basic preventive maintenance and knowledge. The more you know, the more money you will save!

SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE

Questions to ask yourself before taking your automobile to the shop:

-How and when did you first notice the problem?
-Can you make the problem occur? How?
-Are there any abnormal readings on the instrument panel guages, any warning lights coming on?
-Where is the noise coming from?
-How frequently does it occur?
-Does the problem occur when the engine is cold or hot?
-Is the problem related to vehicle speed or engine speed?
-Does the outside temperature make a difference?

The time it takes for a mechanic to start from square one with your vehicle will cost you precious time and money. Prepare a written description about your vehicle problem using the list above and go over it with your mechanic.

WINTER PREPARATION & PROTECTION

Doors & Locks:
Avoid stuck or frozen doors by lubricating the hinges and wiping a recommended preservative on your car door rubber seals, your parts dealer will know what you need. It’s also a good idea to have a small can of lock de-icer for frozen door locks, keep it somewhere outside your vehicle.

Windshields:
Your windshield not only protects you from harmful UV rays but accounts for 20 percent of the structural integrity of your automobile. You do not want to run out of washer fluid especially during wet snow conditions. Keep the windshield washer reservoir full with WINTER washer fluid and a spare jug in the trunk. Replace wiper blades once a year or when they start to leave streaks across your windshield.

Lights:
Before that big trip check to see that all your lights are operating properly and easily visible to other drivers. If in doubt get your headlights properly aligned. Check your headlights for condensation inside the bulb, this tells you that the bulb is no longer sealed and will fail sooner than later.

Tires:
Check your tire pressure and tread condition. Good ice and snow tires are recommended on all four wheels. Tires have built-in wear indicators that appear as a bald strip when there is 1.6 millimeters of tread remaining. When this limit is reached it is definitely time for new tires!

Engine Service:
Change your oil to 5w30 for winter driving. This grade of oil flows easier and helps your engine start in the cold. Replace the engine fuel filter at least once a year. One tow-truck bill could buy you a lot of fuel filters!

Battery:
Service your battery by getting it load tested and the terminals cleaned. Check your alternator belt. If it fails your battery will no longer receive a charge and soon lose it’s reserve power. Winter driving at night puts a huge demand on your charging system so it pays to get it checked out.

Cooling System:
Get your engine coolant tested and adjusted to prevent the coolant from freezing up. It’s recommended to have your cooling system flushed or coolant replaced every two to three years. Check for leaks in your cooling system with a pressure test. This is a quick check that detects any weak areas. Get your engine fan belt checked. It operates your water pump which circulates the coolant and controls the engine temperature. The engine thermostat should be replaced every two to three years depending on vehicle manufacturer requirements.

These tips are very basic and you are probably familiar with a few of them already. The point is if you go on a trip without checking the simple things on your vehicle there is a possibility of trouble down the road. These checks can be done during a routine service visit which will prevent a major failure.

One point to not overlook is finding a good mechanic you can trust and who knows you and your vehicle. A professional auto repair shop will always advise you before going ahead with extra repairs. You can easily find a reputable repair shop by asking for references and doing a background check with the Better Business Bureau in your area.

The Hummer H1 truck has been known as a gas guzzler. It also has been crafted, designed, and popularized as a military-style status symbol. To top it all off, this vehicle has also been suffering from poor sales. That is the very reason why the company has decided to cut and entirely halt the production of the Hummer H1.

Soon, it will be the time to say goodbye to the Hummer H1. This vehicle is actually a truck which is produced by the General Motors Corporation. One of the latest news from the company is that the Hummer H1 would soon be on the list of those that will move on no further.

The Hummer H1 truck has been known as a gas guzzler. It also has been crafted, designed, and popularized as a military-style status symbol. To top it all off, this vehicle has also been suffering from poor sales. That is the very reason why the company has decided to cut and entirely halt the production of the Hummer H1 and instead, focus on marketing and focusing its resources on their other vehicles that sell well and bring in the cash.

Since 1996, this vehicle has already been in production. It has been crafted in three styles which comprise of the convertible-like soft top, the four-door hard top pickup truck, and the station wagon. On the other hand, there are still some other styles for the Hummer H1 which did not quite cause a stir among automobile buyers. These other styles include the pick up truck with two doors and the slantback which holds four doors.

The last batch of Hummer H1s would soon be rolling out the company’s production plant come June this year. It is not so effective when it comes to mileage for it could only run some 10 miles on a gallon of fuel. Despite this, the Hummer H1 would still be remembered fondly since it is the foundation of the Hummer brand.

According to Dayna Hart, GM’s spokesperson for the Hummer brand, “We are discounting it because it’s a low volume niche vehicle and we will dedicate out resources now

Interior Car Floor Mats Are A Must Have For Living In The Northwest

Living in the state of Washington requires driving in all types of weather conditions.

Living in the state of Washington requires driving in all types of weather conditions. Whether I’m driving in rain, slush, snow or its dry and dusty, my vehicle’s interior floor was vulnerable to a quick deterioration if left unprotected. Repeated, everyday use and exposure to the elements a vehicle’s floor will quickly devalue your vehicle’s appearance. Here’s a list of the most common offenders to damaging your vehicle’s interior floor:

– Foot friction wear from the driver and passengers entering and exiting
– Moisture- rain, slush, snow
– Mud and road grime
– Fast food and sticky soda pop that spills
– Shoe grime and crude stuck to your shoe

For maximum protection of my Chevy Suburban’s interior, I accessorized it with custom, form fitting WeatherTech floor liners for the first, second and third rows and a WeatherTech cargo liner for the back. Now every inch of floor space throughout my spacious Suburban is protected.

Before I bought the WeatherTech floor liners and cargo liner products, I wanted to shop to find the best product for my vehicle and my lifestyle. What I discovered while shopping was a vast selection of floor mats, floor liners and cargo liners. There is such a difference between manufacturers, price, materials used and the fit.

For me, living in Washington State with its temperamental weather conditions, l needed all-weather floor liners that would fully protect and shield my vehicle’s OEM carpet. Only after researching all the different types of floor mats available, did I realize carpet floor mats are better suited for drier climates typical of the southern part of the United States. Hence, all floor mats and liners are not all alike and have different features for different climates.

Once I narrowed my search down to finding all weather floor protection products, I could look at the difference between all rubber or high tech poly-based materials – floor mats and floor liners. The difference between a mat and liner isn’t as obvious as it may seem. A floor mat is easily removable and doesn’t cover the whole floor area. Today’s floor liners are digitally, custom molded and shaped to the vehicle’s interior specifications for a quality fit and maximum protection.

For me the choice was easy with kids, Labrador dogs and an active life, I chose to go with floor liners by WeatherTech. The liners fit every exposed inch of my vehicle’s interior floor. The appearance is complementary to my upholstery and dash. Clean up of the floor mats is easy by simply vacuuming and lightly wiping any remaining dirt off with a damp cloth. I am quite satisfied with my purchase of the WeatherTech floor mat and cargo liner and would recommend them to anyone looking for a superior floor protection product.

Driving Through The Desert

It is important that you do take some time to check your vehicle before you actually go through a journey through the desert. This is because the excess heat on your vehicle could make it act up.

It is important that you do take some time to check your vehicle before you actually go through a journey through the desert. This is because the excess heat on your vehicle could make it act up. Also, you would not want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere without any means of communicating for help to anyone.

If you are planning on driving through the desert to some location, automobile experts suggest that you inform somebody about your plans. Let them know when you are going, when you should be expected to return, as well as where is the exact location of your destination.

You should also get a full service tune up before you start on your voyage. You should also bring your car for service at least a week or two weeks before your planned trip. That way, if there are any things that need to be worked on, the personnel could start on it. While at it, have the personnel check your battery terminals for corrosion. If there are, these should be cleaned with a wire brush that has been dipped in baking soda and water. Also add distilled water to your battery if your batteries are sealed.

Go through your tires as well. Inspect for wear. Also, maintain the proper air pressure on your tires. You should know the right amount of pressure by checking your car owner’s manual. Your radiator should also be checked for leaks.

As per your coolant, check for strength in the radiator overflow reservoir. You should be able to do this using a hydrometer. Make sure that the antifreeze is clean and that it is filled up to the proper level as indicated in your car. Now, if the coolant has not yet been replaced or flushed for the last 15,000 miles, this would be the right time to do so.

Irish Driving Tales from the Dark side- The Diary of a Driving Instructor.

937

The saga of the car that nearly broke my heart….yes it is distinctly possible that despite buying a new car for cash you will have problems that sometimes tend to gather a momentum all of their own. Perhaps there is such a thing as a Monday Morning Car,but of course no manufacturer would ever acknowledge this possibility!

An alternative title for this article could be “Don’t Think buying a new car will solve all your ills because it won’t!
Fast rewind to a balmy summer’s day in 1997 and our intrepid Instructor is seen to approach his chosen Automobile supplier cheque book at the ready. A really exciting time, buying a new car for cash for the first (and probably last) time in his life, so you would think. Think again, the storm clouds are brewing (Actually I think they may coagulate)

It’s worth while pointing out at this stage that the car had been ordered some time before and a set of OEM Alloy wheels were to be fitted. Enter showroom with big smile on face, to be met with an equally expansive smile from the Service Manager, who was an old friend and Motoring adviser from many years previously. I am sure the Salesman would have preferred to have dealt with me himself but in this world it’s who you know not what you know, if you get my drift. Back in those days, before the glistening new stainless steel and glass Emporiums that we are used to today when we visit main dealers, it was a bit rough and ready and no cappuccino on tap. Still, all was calm, friendly, and full of expectation. At this stage no hint of what was to come

Your car is ready Sir; the usual pleasantries of being ushered to the waiting Beast (and it did turn out to be just that!) and a silence while we were allowed time to gasp and smile and generally feel good about ourselves. The car did look magnificent with its metallic blue paint, gleaming alloy wheels and electric front windows and other niceties.
This was a Wednesday, in the month of August, and the sun was shining, the birds singing (no rain for a change) and all was well as we completed the formalities and prepared for our new experience. It was indeed a great thrill but I was not to last! A few hours later with just 70 miles on the clock all the electrics went and out the window went my hopes, to be replaced with a foreboding that, as it turned out was wholly justified.

The first problem with the car would not have been so bad had it not been for the fact that my two Daughters and I were booked on the Irish Car ferry to the UK on the following Sunday at 8.00am. My heart sank as I realised that there were only two days or less to get the car roadworthy. In the event of the vehicle not being ready in time, a replacement car and the necessary Insurance cover would have to be ready by close of play on the Friday and this was now 2.00pm Wednesday. Not good!

Back at the showroom, with smiles long since forgotten, campers were unhappy to say the least. I forget which car we drove home and was preparing for the worst, which did actually happen. The fault could not be diagnosed and we reluctantly accepted another replacement car, slightly bigger, to take us on our adventure. We were all extremely disappointed not to be able to show off our new machine to relatives and friends but as it turned out, the larger car was a great benefit on the return journey with all the extra accumulations that a 2000 mile trip does to a small family car.

Two weeks later, safely home from an exhausting round of Family, Friends and Motorway overdose, we looked forward to retrieving our real car; as I am sure, it too, was looking forward to its new owner (or was it?)
It transpired that two or three Auto Electrical Engineers had failed to locate the problem and with the hours ticking away fast to the arrival of the owner, some emergency action was required if a lynching (or worse) was to be avoided. Said Service Manager took the Bull by the Horns and proceeded very quickly, but quite by chance, to discover the malfunction. A simple short circuit on the steering column when the steering wheel was at the fully locked position.

Problem solved—- Happy Campers again Â…not for long sadly! Never having had such a debilitating situation, (at least in the motoring sense!) with any new car before, over the previous twenty seven years, I felt confident that the worst was over .It was only just beginning and it would be come a lot worse over the next twelve months and beyond.
Clearly my plans for the future which included guaranteed, trouble free motoring, had taken a severe knockdown or as Jim Edwards would say a “Friday night smackdown? Jim, as some of you will know is a master Internet Marketing Guru and Author although he doesn’t like the term. I will put his URL in the resource box at the end, for those of you who are interested in a real life success story. I have Jim to thank for helping me to get down and dirty with my word processor and who knows maybe one day I will be able to afford to walk into a Car showroom again and buy the damn place and then maybe, just maybe, I will get some service.

It’s just too exhausting, reliving those heady days, for more than an hour at a time, so the rest of the story and it’s a long one, will follow in the next chapter. In the mean time drive safely and remember learning is a lifetime occupation.

The Mercury Mariner Hybrid has been created by the Ford Motor Company so as to be able to “build a better world.?In fact, “build a better world?are the exact words used by the company upon describing the Mercury Mariner Hybrid. And one of the latest models for this vehicle has been refreshed especially for this year.

A combination of gasoline power plus electric power is what makes the 2006 Mercury Mariner Hybrid run. In fact, this kind of technology is also used in the Ford Escape Hybrid which has already gained fame and fortune in the auto world. The platform from which the Mercury Mariner Hybrid was built on is the same as that of the Ford Escape Hybrid. Though there are some Mercury motor parts that could also be used on other vehicles, there are still specific auto parts made especially for this green and environment friendly vehicle.

Sport utility vehicles are known to be gas guzzlers and also have been famous for being belchers. But not the Mercury Mariner Hybrid. This vehicle might be an SUV but it can run on the most inexpensive fuels and would also have less harmful emissions. The engine for this automobile is a 2.3 liter DOHC Duratec I4 gas engine which has been crafted using aluminum. Every part of it is made from this material.

What is exciting and new for the Mercury Mariner Hybrid is that when it is just coasting, the engine will automatically shut down. This function also turns on during stoplights or when stuck in heavy and slow moving traffic jams. And with that, the results are great benefits for 2006 Mercury Mariner Hybrid owners. They are able to save much on fuel expenses. And the environment also benefits much from the cleaner emissions that the vehicle spews off.

Everyone would like to get a cheap used car at a good condition, but before doing so there are many things to consider. First and foremost thing is to ensure that if the car can be used for long travels daily, all the members of the family, as the needs and requirements differ from person to person.

Once the used car selected satisfies the requirements, the search is further more narrowed down to the category of the car like the features, colors and brands. If the person is not very choosy, he will end up buying a cheap used car easily, but if he is choosy it may take time to get such a car. The safety and reliability features should not be overlooked at any cost as the safety of the person and the whole family is at stake. It is good to check the safety aspect in various ways and with varied collision situations before buying a cheap used car.

Once all the requirements of the person get fulfilled in choosing a cheap used car, the next important aspect to be seen if it is in a good working condition, this aspect is not checked it can cost more on maintenance and repairs. There are certain techniques to check the quality of the car. The used car can be checked with the help of the vehicle’s history or a personal inspection of vehicle to see if any of the parts are damaged, if it had been repainted, if it has any bend or corrosion, if the engine oil is in a good condition, if there is a blown gasket, wear and tear of all the tires etc. The important things the person buying a used car has to check one if the car he is purchasing has met with any kind of accidents or if the car is reported as stolen, all the details about the previous owner, if the mileage is rolled back or not etc.

Cheap used cars buying sources:

Cheap used cars in good condition can be purchased from car dealers who sell used cars or from government auctions or from police used car auctions etc. People who buy new cars dispose their old ones with the car dealers and these car dealers in turn sell the old used cars to people who are looking for cheap used cars. Before buying cars from the dealers it is good to research a little bit on the car values and offers so that the cars can be bought at a fairly cheaper price.

Some people buy cars using car loans and for some reasons do not make payments on the right time. The financial institutions repossess the cars for the money over due from persons, who got the loan. In such cases, the car may even be a brand new one. This can be utilized by the person who is looking for cheap and good used cars. Some may even opt for used police cars, as they may be in very good condition.
